4K And Why You Love It!

Canon EOS 1Dc 4k DSLR!

I know most of you are saying 4k.. what is 4k, no its not a 4,000 dollar camera, the camera we will talk about is more like 12k but I'm getting off track, lets bring you back.  Its all about the pixels baby, the more pixels the better the resolution, the better the resolution the crisper and prettier your film will be. Still have no idea what 4k means, ok here is a generic definition courtesy of Wikipedia!

4K UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160 pixels (8.3 megapixels, aspect ratio 16:9) and is one of the two resolutions of ultra high definition television, the other being 8K UHD which is 7680 pixels × 4320 pixels (33.2 megapixels). Both are aimed at consumer televisions. 4K UHD has twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of the 1080p HDTV format, with four times as many pixels overall.[1]

There don't you feel even worse, I know its a bunch of numbers, but those numbers are difference between your home movies and a Michael Bay summer block buster. Right so for all you non tech people its what gives you that Cinematic quality image, if that still goes over your head its basically a really pretty picture! lol You know when you go the movies and you look at the big ass screen and your like whoa dude that's an awesome shot man.

Yeah thats 4k, and today I will talk about Canon's EOS-1D C
Canon EOS 1D C
which is a yeah you guessed it a 4k DSLR. If you haven't noticed by now I'm an unofficial spokes person for all Canon products, any day now Canon should be sending me a check. Yup.... any day now, sorry I got off track again, I tend to do that, I have ADH damn I think my license is expired. What was I talking about? Oh yeah 4k and the 1D DSLR. This is a really cool camera because it gives you that true and I mean true Cinematic look that will set your film apart from the rest. Of course there is a pretty significant price jump as well. While the 5D Mark III runs for about 3,500 (body only) the 1D 12,000 (body only). So if you are not a millionaire or even a High thousanaire I highly suggest renting this camera for a big project.

Now lets get this clear, in no way am I saying that for you to be a great film maker you need a camera like this. What I am saying is if you want your project to have a certain cinematic look, then this is one way to go. The Red-Cam is 4k, and there are plenty more out there but its all about Canon, Canon Canon Canon Canon. I want my check! I know I know, I haven't really discussed the camera yet, so here you go.

The Canon 1D is an inovative video camera in a DSLR body, it offers 4k movie recording, two seprate  modes of 16:9 HD motion imaging, and full-frame still images. They keep it simple and continue with the (CF) compact flash cards. The full-frame sensor, Canon Dual Digic 5+ image processor with the combination of cinema and EF lenses creates incredible image quality in almost any lighting condition. The body is 3.5 pounds its in an solid and versatile DSLR body so you can fit in lots of creative places for those signature shots. I would love to go into more detail but Im still wating on that check, but hands down this camera is the shit!! I know my last blog about equipment I said I would talk about the lenses but I felt it wouldn't be right without a breif mention of 4k technology and one of the best cameras out there! I have included a shor film that will give you an idea of what to expect from the Canon EOS 1D C.

I might post a video later on as a follow up to show you all exactly what this camera can do, in the mean time  check some youtube vids, there are millions on this camera. Enjoy!

The MUA!

The MUA!

I spent my Cinco De Mayo weekend shooting some promo shots and videos for a great MUA by the name of Jaleeda Floyd. Ms Jaleeda is a very talented young lady, and a pleasure to work with. I found myself having a lot more fun on this shoot than I thought I would. the ladies were very cool, and professional. Made my job easy, and Jaleeda work ethic and skills truly impressed me. Its funny now that I think about it, as a photographer I never really cared much to understand how the make up and styling process worked. to my surprise, its not different from what I do to prepare and execute each shoot. Jaleeda and her crew educated me on what it takes to be an MUA.

I got a chance to interview her about the art of Make Up, and trust me people its an art, these people are like painters and their canvas is the human face and in some occasions the body. Just like Photography and film it takes vision and a lot of creativity to do what they do. After this weekend I have nothing but respect for MUAs all over the world.

Here is what Ms Jaleeda had to say

TTL: What made you want to be a MUA?

Jaleeda: As a child I always painted pictures and did a lot of sketching, Pretty much any form of art was my outlet and my way of expressing myself without speaking. If I could say more without speaking, in my mind that always meant more.

TTL: Really, sounds familiar, lol, so where did the MUA come into play?

Jaleeda: Makeup Artistry became a main focus for me because I feel that if you feel beautiful then your inner beauty will glow. Make up isn't about covering up your beauty, but editing those beautiful features you already have. I had a lot of model friends and I always like doing my own make up, so the natural artistic progression was MUA. I always say "theres nothing wrong with enhancing your natural beauty".

TTL: What is your goal as a MUA, what would you like people walk away with when they have seen or experienced your work?

Jaleeda: My goals as a makeup artist is to always leave my client feeling beautiful, second is to remain at the top of my game, its a passion but its also a craft that needs constant practice to make perfect. New styles and skills can be learned everyday so I never reach a point were it becomes repetitive. Long term goal is to become a celebrity/fashion MUA.

TTL: What pushes you, where do you find inspiration and motivation?
Jaleeda: My motivation is God. I have been through so many things in life that he has always gotten me through the low valleys and helped me climb the high mountains. Artistically I could never stop being expressive, what he has given me is a unique way to silently express my self the same way he speaks to me. He shows his love for me everyday and I'm thankful for that.

The Future of Film Making!! Canon EOS C300

Hello all, welcome to our first installment in film page of Through the Lens. I felt it would be appropriate to start off with a great camera that is taking the film world by storm, The Cinema EOS C300 camera from Canon. I am a Canon fanatic, the only company I love more than Canon would have to be Apple, and the minute they make an Icamera, things might change, but until then Let take a look at this camera.

Introducing Canon's Cinema EOS C300 a brand new HD system for a new era of film making. This beautiful work of art is designed to keep up with the always evolving needs of cinematography. It comes in two versions, the industry-standard PL-lens mount or Canon's EF mount. If that wasn't enough Canon does not disappoint, they have a whole family of EF Cinema lenses designed for cinematography applications. The C300 is lightweight extremely versatile and limitless potential for growth, and simple to operate. The EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL adhere to SMPTE HD production standards, and it also has a MPEG-2 codec. Starting at 13,999.00 this will make your vision as beautiful on screen as it is in your mind.

This is where the film industry is going, in 2010 when everyone started jumping on the DSLR bandwagon, Canon 7d was the camera of choice, the image quality was beautiful, and the best part was the price. At 1,500 for the body, almost anyone could afford one. Now almost 3 years later, almost everyone has one. If not Canon then the Nikon counterpart. Canon saw this trend and started developing cameras like the C300, changing the way movies are mad all over the world. Now TV shows, and films both major and independent are being shot on dslr cameras. Canon just took it up a notch, and film makers all over the world are truly grateful. For more info on the EOS  C300 or any other Canon product please visit pro.usa.canon.com.

On our next post we will look at some of the lenses that go with the EOS C300, and look forward to more posts about equipment and tips on how to get a certain look and learn some cool techniques the pros use to make movie magic.
